Disney's New Tronorail only at Walt Disney World
Following article courtesy of Orlando Attractions Magazine:
Disney's 3D sci-fi adventure film TRON: Legacy doesn't debut in theaters until December, but guests at Disney World can see a bit of the TRON universe zipping high above their heads.
Renderings of yellow and blue light cycles have transformed one of the trains on the monorail line. A blue light cycle zips to the left along one side of Disney's "highway in the sky" and the yellow light cycle zooms to the right. This particular monorail, or "Tronorail" currently takes guests between Epcot and the Ticket and Transportation Center.
TRON: Legacy is a sequel to 1982's classic TRON, both starring recent Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges. TRON: Legacy will be released in both Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D and is currently scheduled to debut across the US on Dec. 17.

A brand new Holiday Inn recently opened on Disney World property. The 14-story, 323-room hotel, located near Downtown Disney on Hotel Plaza Boulevard, opened in the spot formerly occupied by a Marriott Courtyard.
The Courtyard closed about five years ago after it sustained damage during a bad hurricane season. The hurricanes virtually demolished everything. Just about everything except the basic structure is new. The new hotel has a posh new look sure to please seasoned travelers. Fun design elements provide a warm and inviting feel.
"There is no more exhilarating feeling than opening a family-friendly Holiday Inn resort, on Walt Disney World property and hiring more than 100 employees to welcome our community and guests," said Tony Johnson, regional vice president of operations and general manager of the 323-room hotel.
Disney Advantage:
Because of its location on Disney World property, the hotel is able to offer a host of privileges, such as complimentary transportation to all the Disney World Theme Parks, guaranteed access and preferred tee times at Disney golf courses, advance reservations at Disney World restaurants and free delivery of Disney attraction purchases to the hotel. An on-site Disney retail store will be opening this summer.
Rooms:
Relaxing and contemporary, the guest rooms were designed with a soft color palette and outfitted with a 32-inch HD television, white bedding with pillows that come in two comfort levels: "soft" and "firm," complimentary wired Internet access, a coffeemaker and an electronic safe that accommodates laptops up to 17 inches. Every double room features two queen beds, rather than two double beds. The double queen rooms come with a bath/shower combo. Each king room includes a sleeper oversized chair and a walk-in shower or bath/shower combo. Many of the rooms have balconies - some with a pool view, some overlooking I-4 and some with a view of Downtown Disney.
Dining:
The new modern feel of the hotel extends to the dining as well. Fusion cuisine is a nice change from the old greasy spoons from Holiday Inns of the past. The Palm Breezes Restaurant offers all three meals. Kids 12 and younger eat free at all Holiday Inns when ordering from the kids' menu in the hotel restaurant and accompanied by a dining adult. There's also a "grab and go" location for quick snacks. A pool-side restaurant is also in the works. There are a lot of nice small touches in the hotel, such as purse/bag hooks under the hotel bar.
Amenities:
Along with the Disney World advantages, the hotel features a state-
of-the-art fitness room, a jogging and exercise path, a zero-entry heated swimming and connected lap pool, a hot tub and sun deck and a game room. There's no kids room, but an off-property company can come to the hotel to provide babysitting if needed. The front desk can help make the arrangements. The business center and lobby areas provide free wi-fi. There are also party and meeting rooms for wedding receptions, business meetings and the like.
The average price for a night's stay is around $120, but can go up or down depending on the season. One nice perk is there are no "resort fees" added onto the room price. But they do plan on adding a $10 per day parking fee in the near future. Valet parking is also available.

Book your Harry Potter Vac
ation Package now for Universal Studios Orlando
Harry Potter should be accepting guests to his new theme-park home by the end of May.
Universal Orlando has starting selling Vacation Packages for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios...The deals are good for travel beginning May 28.
But May 28 is not being considered the grand-opening date for the $200-million-plus expansion of the Islands of Adventure theme park, Universal spokesman Tom Schroder said.
"It's to help people plan their vacations," he said Thursday. "It's a
day in which we know we'll be able to deliver everything we're offering them as far as vacation packages."
The resort expects Wizarding World to be in operation before that, but is sticking with its "to be revealed in spring 2010″ mantra. There could be soft-opening dates or previews, as is common with many new attractions.
"Obviously it's our goal to open the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as soon as it's ready," Schroder said.
Until Thursday's announcement, Potter fans were forced to play a guessing game on booking reservations.
Rhonda Poelma's 11-year-old daughter Savanna, a Harry Potter fan, convinced her to take a leap of faith on Wizarding World. After talking with a Universal representative on the phone, the Denver mother of two made reservations for early June.
And she lucked out.
"I was just taking a stab in the dark. I went with late spring, post-Memorial Day weekend," Poelma said. "We really wanted to get it in this season while it was still new."
Poelma visited Orlando seven years ago and went to Walt Disney World. This will be her family's first time at Universal, which they will follow with a cruise to the Bahamas.
Setting an opening time frame is an important step, said Ray Braun, a senior vice president at Economics Practice at AECOM, a Los Angeles-based consulting firm that does economic research for the theme-park industry.
"You build your marketing campaign around your big new attractions every year, so you have to build your marketing campaign. It has to be on the front of your brochure, and you have to deliver on that," he said.
"In this case, this is so big, this is like opening a whole new park," Braun said. "This is going to have an inpact on all of Universal's neighbors as well, in terms of the parks. There's going to be an uplift, and I'm sure all of the other parks want to have some knowledge about when that uplift is going to hit too."
At local AAA offices, Wizarding World posters distributed by Universal have created buzz - and questions. Now there's at least a bit more information to go on.
"Once they see the poster, they get all excited and ask about when it is opening," said Vanessa Jones, AAA senior motor club manager of metro Orlando.
"It's people of all ages - old and young," she said. "We're expecting it to be a good attraction for Central Florida and, of course, for Universal."
Wizarding World, which will be included in regular admission to Islands of Adventure, will feature rides, eateries, stores, merchandise and atmosphere based on J.K. Rowling's books and movies about a boy wizard. Universal's version of Hogwarts Castle will house a dark ride, still wrapped in mystery, called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Hogsmeade Village will feature shops, including Ollivanders, where theme-park guests will be able to buy wands. Two current roller coasters at Islands will be rethemed to be Potteresque.
Universal's media release emphasizes that the "May 28 travel date was set to help consumers with vacation planning and does not represent the opening date for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort. Universal has announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open in Spring 2010. Specific opening information will come as soon as it is available."

The Start of Disney World Summer Nightastic
The following article courtesy of Orlando Attractions Magazine
The "Main Street Electrical Parade" will light up the streets of the Magic Kingdom and will headline new after-dark excitement at Walt Disney World. "After the sun goes down, our Walt Disney World parks will light up the night with ‘Summer Nightastic!', " announced Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort, at a media event Wednesday.
Although there will be summer celebrations all around the resort, three main events highlight Summer Nightastic!:
Main Street Electrical Parade:
Disney's "Main Street Electrical Parade" will return to the Magic
Kingdom. Direct from the Disneyland Resort in California, and marking its first engagement in Florida since 2001, the fan favorite parade will be led by Tinker Bell waving from the basket of a magical balloon aboard a new float. Pinocchio and Snow White also join the parade aboard bright new floats. The parade's beloved music and floats will feature more electrifying audio, plus new lighting technologies that create a pixie-dust effect on all the floats.
New effects for Tower of Terror:
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror welcomes "drop-ins" this summer with new glow-in-the-dark lighting effects and the addition of a new drop sequence created especially for Summer Nightastic!.
New fireworks Show:
The Magic Kingdom will treat guests to a special summer fireworks spectacular. The night sky will explode in vivid colors and brilliant visual effects as whimsical music fills the air. The fireworks show, which hasn't been named yet, is a brand new, never before seen show.
This summer will also mark the return of the Sounds Like Summer concert series at Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom will have extended evening hours several times a week.
Summer Nightastic will start in early June. No ending date has been decided on yet.

Orlando Getting Ready for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
ORLANDO -- Universal Orlando Resort has suddenly rolled out a number of high profile ads for the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Could it be a sign that the new attraction will be opening sooner rather than later this spring? Universal would not say.
With a brand new Super Bowl ad, a newly updated Web site and a special interactive map splashed across newspapers nationwide, three major advertisements featuring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in just over the last week have generated lots of interest in the new "theme park within a theme park."
"I know that when Islands of Adventure opened up, everybody was excited about that, but I think this just tops the scale," said Mark Davis, who runs Orlando Discount Tickets USA, a theme park ticket Web site.
Davis said during the last few weeks, 95 percent of his callers and visitors have asked about when Harry's new home is opening.
"When is it opening? We want to be there! Can we buy the package for that time?" the callers ask.
While Universal Orlando will get most of the attention, other tourist businesses have also begun getting ready.
Brian Wong, a local hotel manager, said he has been putting the finishing touches on upgrades for his hotel, and trying to draw in crowds brought in by all of the attention Universal's newest attraction is getting.
"It's newsworthy," Wong said. "It keeps Orlando on the map, and generates interest for years to come."
The crowds and the tourist dollars sure to come are just waiting.
Universal has only revealed that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open this spring. Experts, however, said that many visitors will stay at home until an exact opening date is set, a day our troubled tourism industry said they can't wait for.
"The excitement of something that people have anticipated and really wanted to see is going to be a huge boost," Wong said.

NEW BABY GIANT ANTEATER BORN AT BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA BAY
TAMPA, Fla. (February, 2009) - This baby anteater was born to mom, Adelhi, on December 23, 2009 at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Weighing about 3 pounds at birth, the little boy will ride on his mother's back for about four months until he is ready to walk, explore and find food on his own.
Giant anteaters detect insects with their powerful sense of smell, which is 40 times stronger than a human's and allows them to find and eat up to 30,000 insects a day. They tear apart anthills and logs with their strong claws and lap up the insects with a tongue that can reach 2 feet long.
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay combines world-class thrill rides, live entertainment and one of North America's largest zoos in an unforgettable adventure for the whole family.
